John Ivory Jr.

John Ivory, Jr. was a volunteer minute-man called out by the alarm of April 19, 1775, who marched from Shirley to Cambridge, Massachusetts. On 13 July 1775 he enlisted into the continental service for eight months in the company that was under the command of Capt. Robert Longley of Bolton (Col. Asa Whitcomb's regiment).

John Ivory, Jr. of Shirley, Mass., who was not quite nineteen years of age when he answered the very first call of our country, was a private in the Company of Captain Henry Hackell, CO. James Prescotts Regiment, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, returned home May 5, 1775, service 18 days: also Captain Robert Longleys Company, Col. Asa Whitcombs' Regiment, enlisted July 13, 1775, muster roll dated August 1.1775, service 19 days: also Company return (probably Oct 1775) also Companys receipt for wages for Nob. 1775, dated at Prospect Hill: also Captain Edmond Longley's Company, Col. Cogswell's Regiment, enlisted September 22, 1778, discharged Dec. 31, 1778, service 3 months and 12 days. Company detached to guard and fortify posts at and about Boston.
