P. Ivory was my g-g-grandfather. He was a Lt. in the Union Army in the civil war and died about 1893 in Lapeer, MI and is buried there. He previouly lived in the small Huron Co. Ohio town of Stueben, OH , south of Norwalk. There is a graveyard there with some Bartow's, White's, and Ivory's that are related, also. I have more if you are interested. Thank-you, David Gray.

LaVerne Ivory of Lapeer, Michigan says that his grandmother, Ellen Bartow, turned 60 slaves loose when she married an Ivory thus giving many blacks the Ivory name. (The U.S. Censuses from 1840-1880 show that Ellen Bartow's father Benjamin M. was born in NY, lived and married Mary in Ohio and later moved to Deerfield, Michigan. He was always a cabinet maker not a large land owner who owned slaves.)

LaVerne is the grandson of Philetus Ivory.
