She joined the Eden Baptist Church at early age with her friends and were baptized in Angelina River. She went to school at Eden, Beaumont, and Douglass. She married a local boy Ellis Verdine EV Hamby. They lived in Dayton Texas and rest of time in Nacogdoches Texas. They had two children:
1. Cynthia Kaye Hamby 1952-2010 m Christopher Lynn Chris Massey of Alazan Community
2. Terry Layne Hamby 1957- m Helen Faye Davis of Newton Texas
All together there are 4 grandchildren: Cam and Chaye Massey and Angelia Oneta Angie and Cody Wayne Hamby. She only got to know Cam and Chaye and was so excited about having a granddaughter on the way. Oneta was a kind, loving and very out going person. Most of life she battle sickness and lots of surgeries. But she never let it get her down when it came to family. All that knew her loved her so much. Mama Oneta you will be missed greatly.
