ALICEVILLE Elbert F. "Bud" Strickland, age 60, of Aliceville, died May 18, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. today, May 20, 2013, at Aliceville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Short officiating. Burial will follow in Franconia-Oak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joshua Strickland; his brother-in-law, Allen Moore; his niece, Tammy Montgomery; and his grandparents, Bester and Kittie Strickland and Arthur and Trannie Fair.
Survivors include his sisters, Dyan Duncan (Bill), Dolores Moore, Sandra Shell (Mike), and Jenni Strickland; his brother, Jack Montgomery (Pam); eight nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-nephew; and a host of friends and other relatives.
Elbert F. "Bud" Strickland was born September 13, 1952, in Pickens County, Alabama to the late E.B. Strickland and Helen Fair Strickland. He was a retired welder for Buchanan Lumber Company and a life long resident of Pickens County. Bud loved nature; he liked hunting, walking in the woods, or just sitting in a tree stand. He was a unique person, and had a heart as big as the outdoors. He had a great love for children, especially his nieces and nephews, but most of all he loved the Lord with all his heart. Since his retirement he spent the first few hours of the day in Bible study and quiet time with the Lord.
Pallbearers will be Chris Shell, Todd Montgomery, John Hedrick, Randy Hall, Ben Ezelle, and David Gentry.
Honorary pallbearers are his many friends and Aliceville first responders.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aliceville United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, P.O. Box 409, Aliceville, AL 35442.
