An Amarillo man might have had a heart attack Saturday afternoon before he lost control of his vehicle near a busy intersection and crossed a median striking a car then running into a building, according to police information.
Donald Blake Stratton, 43, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Texas Hospital after he was transported by ambulance to the hospital following the 1:30 p.m. wreck, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release.
Stratton was pulling out of a parking lot at 10th Avenue and Georgia Street and crossed the two east lanes on 10th Avenue, jumped the median in his 1971 Ford pickup, crossed the west lanes and ran into the south side of a business at 2510 W. 10th Ave., according to the release. The Ford struck a 1995 Nissan in the rear as the Ford jumped the median, according to the release.
Bystanders tried to help Stratton, who was not breathing, until police and paramedics arrived, according to the release.
Potter County Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez ordered an autopsy, according to the release. No other injuries were reported.
