Mary was the daughter of Joseph P. White & Eleanor Coulter. She was a school teacher prior to her marriage to Dr. Andrew C. Cunningham-July 26, 1867 at her sister, Ellen Jane White Ford's home in Washington co. Iowa. She was second married, Jan. 16, 1889 in Knoxville to William Ashley.
