Bonnie Alvada Culver, 83, of Coldwater, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010 at her residence.
She was born April 3, 1927 in Batavia Twp., Branch County, to Hudean and Vera (Shippy) Byers. Bonnie married Dr. Dean T. Culver on Dec. 14, 1946 in Coldwater. He preceded her in death March 11, 1999.
Bonnie was very active in the Coldwater United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 59 years. She was also active in the church's Esther Circle. The Community Health Center Auxiliary benefitted from her participation for over 50 years. She was a member of Jacksonian Button Club and the Michigan and National Button Societies. She was an avid cribbage player. She loved traveling with her husband, gardening, collecting antiques and glassware. She enjoyed flower arranging, sewing and making stationery with dried flowers. She worked with her husband as the secretary of his medical practice.
Survivors include her children, Cheryll J. (Timothy) Leach of East Jordan, Thomas D. (Laura) Culver of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Kay L. (Dr. Frank) Moler of Ann Arbor, Sally A. (Gregory) Brayton of Coldwater and Danish exchange student ‘daughter’ Helle Mattheisen of Copenhagen; grandchildren, Timothy Thor Leach and Prescott Tarn Leach, David B. (Rosabel) Moler, Jonathan D. Moler and Anne R. Moler, Emily G. Culver and Baladine J. Culver, Spencer T. Brayton and Jason L. Brayton; great grandson, Miles G. Moler; and siblings, sister Barbara Kibbey of Florida; brother Ross (Marilyn) Byers of Coldwater and sister-in-law Shirley Byers of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Richard Byers and nephew Randy Byers.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at the United Methodist Church of Coldwater. A luncheon will be provided by the United Methodist Women following the ceremony. The family will receive relatives and friends from noon until the time of the celebration at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Coldwater United Methodist Church, the Community Health Center of Branch County Auxiliary, Raven Hill Discovery Center of East Jordan or the charity of one's choice.
