Elizabeth J. Drenning

(23 May 1850 - 23 Apr 1921)

Elizabeth J. Drenning was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, May 23, 1850, and died at her home in Fremont township, Steuben County, Indiana, on the 23rd day of April 1921, aged 70 years and 11 months.

When nineteen years of age she was married to Martin Penner, and in the year 1872, with her husband, her parents and her two children, Lewis and John, she came to Steuben County, which has since that time been her home. Seven children were born to her after she came to Steuben County - Katherine, wife of Orla Fast; Clayton; Frank; Eula, wife of Byron Shupp; Clarence; Harry; and Mable, wife of Paul Taylor, all of whom with the first named sons, her husband, and twenty-three grandchildren, a great grandchild, a brother, Frank Drenning of Pleasent Lake, and many nieces and nephews survive her. Five grandchildren preceeded her to the Beyond.
In the early years of her life she united with the United Brethren Church, and was always a consistant Christian woman. Through many years of affliction she was patient, self-sacrificing, and always doing what she could for others. Her care and thoughtfulness for her children was a marked feature of her life, and her neighbors never asked in vain for a favor that was in her power to grant. Her whole life was one of great industry and usefullness and it can truthfully be said of her, that while her life's pathway was not one of the showy ones, that it was one laid deep in good moral qualities and one that will have its influance on the lives of others for long, long years to come. Verily it can be said, 'That she hath done what she could.' Burial was made at the Jordan Cemetery near her home.
