Richard Martin Penner
(27 Jul 1840 - 28 Nov 1921)
Martin Penner was born in Cumberland, Maryland, July 27, 1840, and died at Richmond, Indiana, November 28, 1921, aged 81 years, 4 months, and 1 day.
In 1873, together with his wife and two children, Lewis and John, he came to Steuben County, Indiana, where he lived for many years, spending most of his time on a farm in Steuben and Pleasent townships. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Penner, six boys and three girls, all of whom are living. His wife, Elizabeth, preceeded him in death, April 29, 1921. Mr. Penner was a man of strong will, great industry and honest in all his dealings. About nineteen years ago he was taken ill, and from that time until the day of this death he was an invalid.
After coming to Indiana he became a member of the United Brethren Church. He was devoted to his family and as long as he was able, he did everything he could to advance their interests, by his industry, good example and precept. He was a good man, a useful man and a good citizen and neighbor; and for his good work he has gone for his reward. Funeral was held Nov. 30, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Byron Shupp, Rev. Humphreys officiating. Burial at Jordan Cemetery.
