Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Miller, a daughter of John B. and Laura Caroline [née Ayres] Miller, was born on September 29th 1854 near Palestine in Anderson County, Texas. 

During the Civil War, Bettie's father served in Company E, 13th Texas Cavalry along side Lieut. George A. Gaston; years later Bettie Miller would married John Hugh Gaston, brother of Lieut. Gaston on December 18th 1872. 

Bettie and John H. Gaston would be blessed with the following known children:
