WILLIAM JULIAN FIELD Age 92, passed away September 4, 2009. Preceded in death by wife Dorothy Hooker Field and grandson Nicholas Field Hieronymus. He is survived by daughter Karen Hieronymus (David), granddaughter Sarah Beth Bresnahan, great granddaughter Ainsley Bresnahan, sister Dorothy Wenkstern, nephew Brent Wenkstern, nieces Judy Eubank and Doreen Whalley. Julian attended Ft. Lauderdale High School l934, University of Cincinnati l934-l935, University of Florida l935-l938- l939. He was employed by Bessemer Properties and the Phipps Family in the Accounting Department. Served in the U.S. Army l942-1946. Discharged with the rank of Lieutenant in Adjutant General Department. In l955, he became Manager of the Palm Beach Office of Bessemer Properties and later Manager of the Miami and Dade County operations along with the Palm Beach and Martin County operations. During this time he developed and planned many subdivisions in Martin County and built the Royal Poinciana Plaza Shopping Center and Royal Poinciana Playhouse in Palm Beach. He assembled tracts around the Jordan Marsh building in Miami, which was built and owned by Bessemer Properties. In l979 he took early retirement but remained as Consultant for the Corp. and Phipps family. During his years in Palm Beach County he was active in West Palm Beach Jaycees, Palm Beach Rotary Club, President of YMCA Board of the Palm Beaches, served on Board of Directors for Palm Beach Community Chest and Treasurer for 25 years, Commander and Life Member of American Legion Palm Beach Post 12, Officer and Director of Palm Beach Co. Community Foundation, Member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Palm Beach and Trust, Member of the Board of Directors of Bessemer Trust Company of Florida, President of the American Legion Palm Beach Post 12 Memorial Scholarship Fund, Vice President of American Legion Post 12 Corp., Member of Board of Directors of WPC Chamber of Commerce, Member of Board of Directors of Red Cross Palm Beach County, Former Deacon First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, Member of Board of Directors of Old Guard Society Palm Beach, Life Member of Sailfish Club Palm Beach, Mayacoo Lakes Country Club West Palm Beach, PGA Country Club Palm Beach Gardens, Springdale Country Club NC, Winchester Creek Country Club NC, Old Guard Society Palm Beach. He retired to the mountains he loved and the friendships he cherished in Laurel Ridge, Waynesville, NC. Julian passed away quietly in his daughter's home surrounded by love. Service to be held 10 AM Saturday, September 12,2009 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home with burial to follow.
