Myrtis Margaret Burnett

ANGUILLA – Funeral services for Myrtis Burnett Greer, 91, of Anguilla, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Anguilla United Methodist Church, Anguilla. She died April 11, 2012, at the Sharkey Issaquena Community Hospital. Burial will be at the Golden Link Cemetery, Anguilla, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.
Myrtis Margaret Burnett Greer was born in Hollandale on January 30, 1921, the second child of Thomas Charles and Willie Mae Burnett. She was a member of a life-long group of girl friends called the Indian Club that had reunions for over six decades.
In 1947, she met and married Hilton Thomas Greer after his discharge from World War II service. Myrtis lived in Anguilla for nearly 65 years.
Mrs. Greer was involved in several Garden Clubs on the local and state levels, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in charge of the operation of the Golden Link Cemetery and a member of the Anguilla United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife who attended countless Mississippi State University football games over her 42 years of marriage.
Her home was always filled with flowers and good food. She was a true southern lady who enjoyed entertaining friends. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton T. Greer Sr.; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Rice of Atlanta, Ga.; and her brother, T.C. Burnett Jr. of Hollandale.
She is survived by her sons, Hilton "Tom" Thomas Greer Jr., of Seattle, Wash. and Grover Fields Greer (Martha Jane), of Anguilla; and her grandchildren, Grover Fields Greer Jr. (Amy Land), of Vestavia Hills, Ala. and Jonathan Thomas Greer, of Anguilla; and two great-grandchildren, Margaret Harris Greer and Hilton Roberts Greer, of Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Glenwood Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Ewing, Carlo Caselli, Jackie Martin, Bobby Hodnett, Bubba Cooper, Murphy Jones and David Ewing.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Kline, Merlin Richardson, Treves Cooper, Jimmy Nicholson, Homer Greer, Mike Greer, Chuck Rice, Roman Rice, Tim Burnett, Bob Burnett, Dr. Dan Jackson and Dr. Michael Baker.
The Rev. Ron Gomillion will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial gifts be made to the Anguilla United Methodist Church or the Sharkey Issaquena Community Hospital.
