Mittie Rushton Brown

Mittie R. Hardy, 95 of Perryton, died Nov.9, 1993. Funeral services will be today, Thursday, at 2 P.M. in First Baptist Church with Elder Vince Hardy of College Station and Elder T.J. Pittman, officiating. Burial will follow, under the direction of Boxwell Brothers, in Ochiltree Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 6, 1898 in Perry County, TN and married Willis H. Hardy on April 3, 1920 in Cleveland County, AR. She came to Ochiltree County in 1925, where she and her husband farmed south of Perryton. Mr. Hardy died in 1962. She was a founding member of Perryton's Primitive Baptist Church when it was constituted in 1940, and at the time of her death, was a member of the Borger Primitive Baptist Church. She was a babysitter for several years for many local children and was known to many as "Grandma Hardy". She had resided in Senior Village for the past five years.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Matthews, in 1990.
She is survived by three sons, John Hardy and Ernest Hardy, both of Perryton and Ben Hardy of Seminole; three daughters, Lucille Matthews of Ozark, MO, Mavis Hibbard of Ogden, UT and Elaine Herrindgton of Perryton; One brother Vester Brown of Rison, AR; one sister, Mollie Shelby of Rison; 31 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
