Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Sanders
(25 Jun 1827 - 13 Oct 1910)
Charlotte Stafford wrote the following about Carrie:
She was educated in Maine and taught school in Belfast and in Searsport, ME., in the years 1845 and 1846. She had two sons by her first husband, William Durham, who died 8 Mar. 1856. She left the two sons with her parents and moved west (not sure exactly when or why), and on 13 Nov 1864 she married William B. Stafford in Dayton, Franklin Co., Idaho (Nevada marriages 1860 to 1987). After marriage the Durham boys joined them and appear in the 1870 census in Oakland, CA. He and Carrie had three sons together (Fred, George & Herbert). She kept some lovely letters from the two Durham children over the years.
