Individual Details
(3 Aug 1797 - 18 Nov 1866)
Migginson was born in Lovingston, Virginia, married Nancy Phillips and raised his eleven children before moving to Texas. He first moved to Woodville, Alabama, then to Texas in 1848 - first near Jefferson. One of their daughters, Lucy Jane, was 11 years old when they arrived in Texas. Migginson Loving first settled his family at Hickory Hill, which is now Avenger. The Lovings lived there for about 1 year while Mr. Loving looked the area over for a permanent place to settle. He moved them to Daingerfield on land he bought on the north side of Daingerfield, near where "old" Daingerfield was located and the new present day court house stands. He built a small log cabin and the family lived there until he bought land in central Morris county (Titus county at the time) just north of present day Rocky Branch, Texas. That log cabin still stands, but it has been added into and is now the central part of a larger house. Migginson Loving sold his property in Daingerfield some of which fronted the public square. The family made its's final move at this point. Mr. Loving sold part of this land to his son-in-lay, Chesley P. Forsyth, in 1858, this land is still in the family (LJ's farm). The Loving brought two slaves with them (that we know of). They were Aunt Suley and her daughter Rene (or Rena). Aunt Sukey's husband was owned by another man, and when the Lovings were preparing to move neither man would sell either one to the other. So when Migginson Loving and family came to Texas they brought Aunt Sukey which separated her and her husband. Migginson and Nancy Loving were still living on the home place near Rocky Branch when they died. They are buried in the Loving section of Spring Hill cemetery. The Loving cemetery located north of Rocky Branch and the Loving-Forsyth homeplace was started in 1856. Cynthia Loving Kidd of Virginia was visiting her brother, Migginson, in Rocky Branch when she died. She was the first to be buried there. Migginson Loving was a postmaster of Woodville, Alabama; and later he was postmaster at Daingerfield. Migginson was as member of the Texas Legislature. Migginson also claimed he was part Cherokee Indian, related to Powhatan who was Pocahontas's father.
