Obituary
WORCESTER TELEGRAM & GAZETTE (MA) | 27 SEPTEMBER 1996WESTBORO - Theodoros Laddis, 94, of 7 Longfellow Road, a high-school teacher and principal for many years, died Wednesday night in Beaumont Nursing Home after an illness.
His wife, Fotini (Papatheodorou) Laddis, died in 1957. He leaves two sons, Andreas Laddis of Westboro and Fontas Laddis of Athens, Greece; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born near Sparta, Greece, son of Andreas and Valasso (Polymenakou) Laddis, and came to the United States last year. He moved to Westboro in the spring. He graduated from a college in Greece.
He served in the Greek campaign against Turkey in Asia Minor in 1922 in the aftermath of World War I. He later served in the Greek army during World War II to fight against the invasion of Greece by Nazi forces and their allies.
Mr. Laddis was a high-school teacher of ancient Greek and modern Greek history at several schools for 40 years, mainly in the Athens area, retiring in 1967. He was also principal of those schools. He also wrote several books for use in the schools.
A memorial service will be held at 8:15 tonight in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Westboro, 64 West Main St. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Church of Our Saviour, Greek Orthodox, 2195 Westchester Ave., Rye, N.Y. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, White Plains, N.Y. Calling hours are 6:30 to 8 tonight at Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Westboro, 64 West Main St., Westboro 01581.
