Thomas Kontakos
(1945 - 7 Jan 2024)
My mother, older brother and myself were born at Agios Ioannis; the family moved to Sparta in 1949 but not for very long. We moved to Athens in 1963; thousands of Greeks moved to Athens or left Greece for USA, Canadaand Australia in the 1950s. My father was born at Egies; just north of Gythio. He was a truck assistant and came to Agios Ioannis to load oranges. He met my mother at the orange fields where she was packaging the oranges in large containers (κοφίνια made of καλάμια and a piece of cloth was sown on top as a cover). Love at first sight My father, George Kontakos (aka Poulakias) worked for your grandfather (Aridas) at the KTEL.}
