We say a loving farewell to Edward C. Pardue who passed away Monday,November 10, 2003 in Madera, Ca. Born July 20th 1918 in Exeter, Ca. Hewas raised by his mother Flossie and father John Porter Pardue. Hegrew up with his four brothers Newell, Frank, Art, and Lester and twosisters Hazel and Elsie. Eddie met the love of his life Marguerite atthe ripe age of seventeen. They were married on May 9th 1942 in LasVegas, Nevada. In the early forties they moved to the San FranciscoBay Area. They were blessed with two daughters Sherron and Shirley. Hecalled them his little sweethearts.
Eddie was a race car enthusiast. In 1948 and his wife attended theirfirst Indianapolis race. Eddie befriended drivers and soon he andMarguerite had the best seats in the house (the race pit.) Soon afterhe told Marguerite "I?m going to build my own car? and that he did.Through Eddie?s vision Apache was born. A one of a kind customroadster. Apache won many awards in auto shows. It was featured on thecover of Hot Rod magazine and Marguerite and the Apache were in thecenterfold. Eddie loved riding around town with his daughters Sherronand Shirley.
As a young man he started his career as a salesman at a car lot. Hewas so successful selling cars that his commission salary could not bepaid by his boss. So, he decided to open his own car lot. PardueMotors in Los Altos on El Camino Real opened in the 1953. He loveddealing with people and grew a very successful business. Friendscalled him the "Duke of El Camino?. In 1958 Eddie changed his careerto Real Estate. He was owner and founder of Gull Land Company. Hespecialized in land development and commercial property. He flourishedin the Real Estate business. Known by associates as "Eddie the LandMan?. He loved wheeling and dealing.
Eddie was called "Dudden? by his close family members. His family wasextremely important to him. He enjoyed entertaining family, friends,and business associates. He loved to give a tour of his estate andalways made everyone feel welcome. Some of his hobbies includingdancing, remodeling his property for more convenience and beauty,spending time in his work shop and inventing. He was always trying tothink of ways to make people?s lives easier. One of his patentedinventions was even distributed by the Douglas Company and sold atMacey?s in the 1950?s.
Coming from humble beginnings Eddie was truly a self-made man. He wasa proud man and his family was proud of him. Elsie, his sisterdescribed him as wonderful and caring! He had many obstacles toovercome and he did so with fierce determination and perseverance. Hewas Marguerite?s best friend and companion. He was many things to manypeople, a one of a kind. A loving husband, giving father, and a warmgrandfather with the heart of a lion. He never retired and was alwaysactive in running Gull Land Company. Eddie will be terribly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife Marguerite Pardue of Madera, Ca;sister Elsie Metzler of Fresno, Ca; brother Lester Pardue ofIndianapolis, Indiana; daughter Shirley Brady and son-in-law Ron Bradyof Scotts Valley, Ca; granddaughters Kristen Andersen of Foster City,Ca, Ashley Gregory of Santa Cruz, Ca and Heather Arnold of Santa Cruz;five great-grand children, DeLlana, Dylan, Brandon, Nicholas, andTaylor.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2003 from 12 pm to 5pm at Smith Manor Grace Chapel in Madera, Ca. (801 E. Yosemite Ave.)Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. atSmith Manor Grace Chapel, 801 East Yosemite Avenue in Madera.
Donations can be made to Madera Hospice or American DiabetesAssociations.
