"More Bourban County, KY records" as compiled by Elinor W. Wright.The photocopied page notes that the original bonds which are inbundles in County Clerk's office were taken by high school studentsfor S.P.A., accounting for errors in names. That one has her name asSelby Mulherin.
"History of Pike County" has a biographical sketch for Mordecai underCalumet Township. It says he was deceased, born in Bourbon County, KY,15 Oct 1797, where he was reared and educated. In 1817 he came to Pikeco., MO, where he settled on a farm in Calumet township and continuedto reside until his death. He was married in Bourbon County to MissSarah Mulherren of that county; by that union were 8 children, of whomfive still survive: Thomas, Elizabeth, Benjamin F., Mordecai M. andSarah A. Mr. Amos was a self-made man and by close attention to hisfarming pursuits he accumulated a large property, sufficient to leavehis children all a good home. He and his wife were formerly members ofthe M.E. Church, but in 1848 he withdrew and united with the ChristianChurch, with which he was identified until his death, which occurred25 Aug 1879. His first wife died 14 May 1849; he was again married in1858 to Miss Tempie McCue, who died 29 Aug 1864.
This book states that Mordecai Amos and "other old settlers" came afew years after 1817.
Another history book of Pike County lists Mordecai Amos as a chartermember of the Clarksville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),organized by the Rev. John Mulherin in1851. It states that beforethen, the people of that denomination worshipped at the Ramsey CreekChurch south of Clarksville.
Deed Book C. page 195 of Pike Co., MO, shows John Mulherin granting toMordecai Amos on 23 June 1827. 183 acres on Ramsey's Creek. Recorded06 Aug 1827. (NOTE: I have this deed ** in my list, but do not find acopy.) Grantee Index to Deeds is LDS Film # 974641.
Will of Mordecai Amos, Vol 7 Pg. 449, Pike Co., MO. Dated 16 Nov 1876and proved 30 Sep 1878. Heirs: "the heirs at law of my deceaseddaughter, Catharine D. Griffith, the sum of $900 to be distributedamong them in the same manner as if they had inherited the same frommy said daughter". Son Mordecai M. Amos, $1,000. Daughter Sarah O.Galloway $1,000. Any surplus left to be paid to Sarah A. Galloway. If,however, the remainder of his estate should not be sufficient to paythe sums as set out, then distribution shall be as follows: To theheirs of Catharine D. Griffith, 9/29; to Mordecai M. Amos 10/29. ToSarah A. Galloway 10/29. Stated that children Elizabeth McCoy, ThomasAmos and Benjamin F. Amos have already received their full sharesduring his lifetime. The will also instructed his administrator toenclose his and his wife's graves in accordance with instructionsgiven him. That would indicate he is buried next to Sarah at RamseyCreek Church Cemetery.
