Obituary in the Porterville Recorder Tuesday, May 31, 1960: "Mrs. Nan Duncan Succumbs in Fresno at 82; Mrs. Nan Holston Duncan, 82, who lived at Success until four years ago when she moved to Fresno, passed away in Fresno Monday night following a long illness. She was a native of Jefferson City, Tenn..
Mrs. Duncan came to California in 1910. She was married to the late Claude Duncan.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Leo Guertin of Porterville, Mrs.Glenn Swadley and Mrs. John Cooper, both of Fresno; two brothers,Charles Holston of Porterville and Hugh Holston of Tennessee, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services are pending at the Loyd Chapel."

On June 1, 1960, the Recorder had this funeral notice: "In Fresno, Monday, May 31, 1960; Nan Holston Duncan, 82; native of Mossey Creek,Tenn.; mother of Mrs. Glenn Swadley, Mrs. John S. Cooper, Mrs. LeoGuertin; sister of Hugh Holston and Charles Holston; and grandmother of nine. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Loyd Chapel. Interment will be at the Home of Peace cemetery." Copies of both items in possession of the author.

According to Ethel Brown, Nan's birthplace of Mossy Creek, TN, later became Jefferson City.
