Quoting Miriam Riggs Kammerzell, daughter of Charles E. Riggs:
"I am sure that the Riggs and Griffith families are of Welsh origin. The Griffith Family came to Missouri from Kentucky, I have been told.So did the Amos-Mulharrin families. Our grandmother, CatherineGriffith Riggs, told Aunt Bessie that her great-grandmother wascaptured by Indians with her baby and two older sons, in Kentucky. Sheescaped with the baby, but the two boys remained with the Indians forsome time. When they finally came home they acted as Indians, even tohaving their ears split lengthwise." The baby must have been JohnGriffith, our great-grandfather."
