Below the photo it says "Miss Shirley Garver, daughter of Mrs. Anita Garver of this city, became the bride of Carl Brown on March 10th. The ceremony was performed at the manse of the Methodist Church of Porterville, Rev. J. Lewis officiating. The bride was attended by her sister, Edith Garver. Only immediate relatives of the families were present. Mrs. and Mrs. Brown will reside in Porterville, where Brown is employed in a local bakery".
The second clipping is: "Carl Browns Are Honored On Silver Wedding: A reception was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Lawrence of Ducor in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown on their 25th wedding anniversary. Assisting the hostess were Mmes. Richard Marshall, Howard Morrison and Leo Wilson of Porterville, all neighbors of the Browns.
Mrs. Brown is a native of Terra Bella and Mr. Brown lived in the area since he was 12 years of age. Both were students at Porterville High School. The couple were married in Porterville at the Methodist parsonage on March 10, 1928. Mrs. Edith Lawrence was attendant for her sister.
During the afternoon 75 families called to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Brown. The Lawrence home was decorated with daffodils and Dutch iris and on the refreshment table was a three-tiered cake and silver candlesticks which was cut in the traditional manner by the Browns.
