Notes in Lenig Library from Perry Co. Forrester says Michael died in Tiffin, Seneca Co., Ohio and another source days died Oliver Twp buried Altoona, PA. [May, 2012, I obtained death notice from the Perry Forrester and it does specifically say he died at Tiffin, Seneca Co., Ohio. Then I found what appears to be Michael's son David in Seneca County in 1850 and 1860 census.
Bio of D. M. Ehrhart in History of Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata and Perry Counties, pages 1324/25:
"D. M. EHRHART, farmer, Newport, Perry county, Pa., son of John and Elmira (Super) Ehrhart, Was born in Sugar Run valley, Perry county,Pa., September 15, 1854. The maternal great-grandparents of Mr. Ehrhart came from Germany. His paternal great-grandfather died when a young man, and his Widow afterwards married Philip Shearer. Michael Ehrhart, grandfather of D. M. Ehrhart, Was born in York county, Pa., and remained there until shortly after his marriage, when he removed to Oliver township, Perry county, Pa,, transporting his family and effects in a wagon, owned and driven by a Mr. Himes. He was a man of slender means and worked as a day laborer, living on a rented farm. On reaching Perry county, he bought a small home and occupied it for some years, but sold it later and moved from place to place. For some years the family lived in a log house on the Bloomfield road. He died in Oliver township and is buried at Altoona, Pa. His wife was Miss Wolf, who died in West Huntingdon, Pa. Their children are: John F.; Mary, deceased; David, deceased; Michael, a Lutheran minister, deceased; George, deceased; William, died young; Sarah, resides in the west; and Susanna, resides in the south."
Bio of William Nelson Ehrhart says Michael was a native of York Co., PA and born in 1795 and that he died in Ohio in 1859. All children "have long since been deceased" at the time of the bio. (date?)
"Churches Between the Mountains" by Rev. D.H. Focht, published 1862.Extracts made 27 May 1992 at Lenig Library. A History of the Lutheran Church. Has a list of members who signed the constitution for new church in Juniata Township. Cornerstone was laid Oct., 1840. Included Michael Earhart.
Records of Mount Zion Lutheran and German Reformed of West Fishing Creek Valley in Rye Township, Cumberland County, now Carroll Township, Perry Co., copied at Lenig Library, show communion on May 22, 1820 by Michael Erhart, Oct 12, 1823 and Nov 12 1827 by Michael Ehrhart. Records continue to 1881 but there were no more mentions of Ehrhart.
At The Perry Historians is a small book called The Pauper School Children Lists by Harry A. Focht. The names were found in the tax assessment records for the years 1820 to 1840 and show names of children whose parents were not able to pay for their schooling. In 1831 in Centre Township, with no parent named were:
David Erehart aged 9 years
Michael Erehart aged 6 years
Sarah Erehart aged 5 years
This matches names and ages of three of Michael's children.
Book B Vol 1, page 345-348, Perry Co., PA
First is a deed from Michael Wolf and Christina his wife, of Tyrone Twp., Cumberland Co., PA, to Jacob Wolf of the same place, dated 28 Nov 1816, for love and affection and $10.00, 16 acres.
Next is a deed dated 9 April 1819 from Jacob Wolf and Christinah his wife, of Tyrone Twp., Cumberland Co., PA, to Michael Earehart of York County, PA, for $200, the same 16 acres. Philip Shearer was the witness to the deed.
Next is a deed dated 4 March 1806 [sic - must be 1826 from later date] from Michael Earhart and Sarah his wife of Tyrone Twp., Perry Co., PA, to Philip Shearer of the same, for $200, the same 16 acres.
These were all recorded at the same time, 19 Aug 1926. On 26 Jan 1826, there was a Sheriff's sale to be 6 Apr for 16 acres. This is reflected for Michael Wolf and shows source #1611, which is the Perry Forester Newspaper (1820-Jul 1826), Microfilm #A300 at the Perry Historians. It appears Michael Earhart was unable to pay his taxes and the sale took place to avoid the tax sale.
Clearly, there is a close relationship between Michael and Christina Wolf and Jacob Wolf. Since Michael Earhart's wife was Sarah Wolf, it is likely that these men are also her family, although the exact relationships still need to be determined. Philip Shearer was Michael Earhart's step-father.
NOTE: Michael's eldest son was John Solomon, so possibly that was his father's name and possibly Michael was his grandfather's name. In the York County assessments for Reading, 1795, there is a John Earhart with land, 2 horses and 3 cows; then in Reading, 1797, there is a John Earhart with land, 4 horses and 3 cows. He is absent by 1799, which would fit with Michael's father dying young and his widow marrying Philip Shearer.
This would be another possible connected family, since Michael named a child David:
ERHART, David. Reading Township.
February 24, 1775 March 28, 1775
Executors: Philip and Margaret Erhart.
Wife: Margaret Erhart.
Children: Philip, Catharine, Susanna, Esther, David, John,
Margaret, Anthony, Barbara, Ann and Elizabeth.
Adams County was formed from York in 1800 and apparently Reading Twp. is in the part of York that became Adams. But John should have been still in York in 1799. Perhaps, though, marriage for Michael's mother was in Adams.
1820 census Tyrone Twp., Perry Co., PA, for Michael Ehrhart shows:
