"In the name of God Amen I William Duncan of the Parish of Brumfieldand County of Culpeper being of a sound and perfect mind and memorythanks be to Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my lastWill and Testament in manner and form following viz.
I Bequesth my precious and Immortal soul to Almighty God who gave itin full hope of Pardon and Remission for all my past sins andTransgressions, thro' the merits and mediation of my mostcompassionate Redeemer Jesus Christ my Body to be decently Buried atthe discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as to such Worldlyestate wherewith hath pleased God to Bless me I dispose of the same asfollows:
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son Charles DuncanTwenty five pounds specie to him and his Heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved son James Duncan all thatTract of Land on which I now live with the appurtenances as also myDesk and Book Case to him and his Heirs forever.
Item My Will and desire is that all the residue of my Estate be soldto the highest Bidder at six months Credit and the money arising fromsaid sales (after paying all my Just Debts and Legacies) be equallydivided among my sons Rawley Duncan, William Duncan, John Duncan,Deceased, Joseph Duncan, and Charles Duncan and my Daughter AnneRoberts, but my Will and Desire is that the Dividend or part Intendedfor my son John Duncan deceased be equally divided amongst all hisLawfull children sons and Daughters, as also all the Dividend or partIntended or allotted for my Daughter Anne Roberts be Equally Dividedamongst all my said
Daughter Anne's Children both sons and daughters.
And Lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my well beloved sons Josephand James Duncan and my Trusty and faithfull friend John BradfordExecutors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking allformer Wills by me made and declaring this to be my last Will andTestament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this24th day of February 1781.

At a Court held for Culpeper County the 15th day of October 1788 [lastdigit crossed over and a 1 written in].
This last Will and Testament of William Duncan Deceased was Exhibitedto the Court by the Executor and was proved by the oaths of WilliamBrowning and Shadrach Browning two of the Witnesses thereto andOrdered to be recorded, And on the motion of the said ExecutorsCertificate is granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due formthey having made oath thereto and given bond and security according tolaw. Teste John Jameson C. S. Cur.
NOTE: The inventory of the estate was dated 15 October 1781.
The Duncan book also lists as children Mary Duncan, a twin to Joseph,who died in childhood, Nancy Duncan, born 1736, who died in childhood,and Rice Duncan, born Feb, 1734, died about 1788. As the book notes,Rice Duncan's name is not mentioned in William Duncan's will as a sonor otherwise. Regardless, N.R.R. cites a deed from Wm Duncan the elderto son Rice Duncan, one from Wm Duncan the ender to son Joseph andanother agreement that refers to Rice Duncan deceased and his brotherJoseph Duncan, his heir.
