Individual Details
Arthur A. DUNCAN
(11 Dec 1881 - 19 Aug 1965)
Hal Landers copied information from death cert 10 Nov 1981. Stated he was a citrus ranch foreman and had lived in CA 59 years. At time of death, he was 80 years old. Book 21 pg 502, Certificate No. 898.
List of children in the family from an interview with Archie Landers on 5 June 1994 in Porterville, CA. He also said that Arthur and Grant Duncan came to CA with his (Archie's) family the second (and last) time they came to CA and that they married sisters. He didn't know how they were connected, just that Cynthia was Walter Landers'"cousin".
Note that CADI has Arthur's birth date as 11 Dec 1884. Which is correct? Used 11 Dec 1881 - 1900 census has him as oldest child at home then and shows birth date of Dec. 1881. In addition, 1910 census says he is only 26 and has been married 9 years, which makes the 1884 birth date very unlikely.
Newspaper article provided by Eileen Cummings. Newspaper and date of publication not provided, but must be 1951, probably Porterville Evening Recorder:
"Arthur A. Duncans Hold Open House On Golden Wedding Day
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur A. Duncan of Reid Avenue celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday with an open house.
The couple were married in Cedar County, Mo., on March 3, and 1901,and came to Porterville in 1907 to make their home. Mrs. Allie Stone and Grant Duncan of Porterville were in attendance at the wedding in 1901, and were present for the fiftieth anniversary Sunday.
All of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan's children were present to enjoy the anniversary. They were: Mrs. Jessie Baldwin, Eagle Rock; John Duncan, Monterey Park, Gene and Frank Duncan, Porterville; and Mrs. Evelyn Hayes, Visalia.
During the afternoon many friends and relatives called and wished Mr. and Mrs. Duncan much happiness.
Judge Ernest Ridgway performed a mock ceremony which added much merriment to the occasion. Gene Duncan gave the bride away. Jay Hayes acted as best man, Jessie Baldwin was matron of honor, and Evelyn Hayes, bridesmaid.
Later the 'bride and groom' cut a three-tiered wedding cake, especially baked for the party by the couple's younger daughter, Mrs. Hayes. Friends and relatives were served refreshments from a beautifully decorated lace-covered table, lighted with candles, Shirley Ann Duncan, a granddaughter, presided over the guest book. Grandchildren Mary Alice Duncan, Gary Duncan, Patricia Baldwin, James Hayes, and Marlene Hayes assisted with the serving.
Approximately 50 guests called during the afternoon and the honored couple received many gifts."
Obituary transcribed by Eileen Cummings:

RESIDENT 59 YEARS, DIES
