1783 Hopewell Township, Washington County, PA. Tax list shows Aaron Delong with no land, 1 horse, 1 cow, 1 sheep, value 10/10 (10 Pennsylvania pounds and 10 shillings). From "The 1783 Tax Lists and the 1790 Federal Census for Washington County, Pennsylvania", b yKatherine K. Zinsser and Raymond M. Bell, 1988, Heritage Books, Inc.,Bowie, Maryland.
A posting on rootsweb.com has a history of a Clemens family and states that on 22 Mar 1794, two Clemens men purchased from Aaron DeLong, a tract of land containing 179 acres for a consideration of 75 pounds.This land was located in the southwest corner of the township between Buffalo Creek and Sugar Run, and was called "Rich Hill", on which Delong made settlement in 1772. This is in Washington Co., PA. Not verified.
"Pennsylvania Archives", Series 2, Vol. 22. Returns of Taxables for Washington Co., PA, edited by William Henry Egle, M.D., Wm. Stanley Ray, State Printer of Pennsylvannia, 1898. 1786 Effective Supply Tax.Aaron Delong, no land, 1 horse, 3 cattle, value 16. (Believe this is 16 pounds.).
History of Morgan County, Ohio, by Charles Robertson, M.D., page 95, lists Aaron Delong and family as part of a colony of about 30 at the confluence of Olive Green Creek with the Muskingum.
Federal Land Series, Vol. 1, 1788-1810, Item No. 2524 has, dated 20 Nov 1785, a "Report of the houses situated between Yellow Creek & the mouth of the Muskingum (River) on the Ohio destroyed by a detachment under the command of Captain John Dougherty". Aaron Delong is listed as "along the shore below Cross Creek". Item No.2525, dated 27 Apr 1786, has a list of houses destroyed, including Henry Long, Grass Creek, Solomon Delong, "4 miles from Noriss Town" and Samuel Delong"at Wheeling".
24 Mar 1794, Rufus Putnam et al granted to Aaron Delong of Waterford Husbandman in the County of Washington and Territory of the United States Northwest of the River Ohio, 100 acres. Property was on the Muskingum River, part of 5th Township, 10th range. Property adjoining Ezra Sherman on south and Abel Sherman on the north. Book 2 page 249of Deeds, Washington County, OH.
Letter from J.D. Baldwin to Margaret Gallup 3 Mar 1985 says that a Washington County Ohio deed of 1806 gives land from Aaron Jr. and Mary DeLong to their son Henry. This is supported by:
Deed dated 27 May 1806, recorded Vol 10 page 212, Washington Co., OH.Aaron Delong of Waterford, Washington Co., State of Ohio, yeoman, for 200 eagles paid by Henry Delong of Waterford. Sold land butted and bounded as follows: beginning at a stake on the northeasterly bank of Muskingum River on or near the line between the lot No. 21 & 27 of the fifth Township in the Tenth Range agreeably to ___Ludlows survey of the north boundary line of the aforesaid 1000 acres a beach 25"diameter bearing north 71 degrees east 9 links then running east about 24 chains to a stake 6 chains west of the east line of said lot No. 21 then north 13 chains 33 links to a ____ then running west to a stake on the bank of the Muskingum a beach 14" diameter bearing north 74 east 9 links and another beach 8 " diameter north 60 ___ __ then running southerly to the point of beginning which described tract of land of 100 acres exclusively of one chain in width on the bank of the River which is reserved for a public highway bounded south on land granted to Ezra Sherman north on land granted to Abel Sherman and east on public land. Signed Aaron Delong and Mary Delong by her mark.Witnesses were Nathan Hinkley, Esry Shearman, Nick Hoit and Peter Sharle/Shade (sp?).
"Early Ohioans' Residences from the Land Grant Records" by Mayburt Stephenson Riegel, lists under "Donation Tract Lands", Aaron Delong, Olive Green; Aaron Delong Sr., Olive Green; John Delong, Duck Creek;and Jonathan Delong, Duck Creek.
"History of Southeastern Ohio and the Muskingum Valley 1788-1928" byThomas William Lewis, pg 178, says that in the spring of 1794 the Waterford settlers felt it would be safe to establish a colony and they erected a blockhouse at the mouth of the Olive Green Creek, four miles up the Muskingum. The settlers were Able Sherman and wife, their son Ezra and his wife and two unmarried sons of the former, but grown men; Ezekial Hoyt, wife and children; Aaron "Delairy", wife, son and two daughters; Mathew Gallant and George Ewing, wife and children.
"Washington", the Quarterly newsletter of the Washington Co., OH, chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Vol VIII No. 3 lists"Joseph Buell's Estate Statement of Debts". Aaron Delong is listed with a note date of 21 Apr 1804.
"Washington County, Ohio, Tax List 1817 and Non-Resident Taxes 1801",by Carrie Eldridge, self-published, Chesapeake, OH. The 1817 tax list for Waterford shows Henry Delong with 100 acres, lot 2, S21 T5 R10,original proprietor was Aaran Delong.
Birth dates of children, if actually all Aaron's, suggest at least two wives.
In the 1870 census, Rachel Delong McKee, daughter of Aaron, said both of her parents were of foreign birth. However, in 1880 census, she said both parents were born in Pennsylvania.
