Emma Jean CHISM

Emma Jean was born at home, west of Needmore. She was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services were in Pitts Funeral Chapel, Bolivar, Polk Co., MO. Emma Jean fought cancer for several years. When her health became very bad, she and Bernard went to Augusta, GA, and stayed with Janice until she died.

" Emma Jean Fidler, Fair Play, eldest daughter of Ovie and Willia Tolbert Chism, was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Cedar County. She passed away at 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, in Augusta, Ga., at the age of 73 years and 3 days, after a long illness with cancer.
Emma Jean was married to Bernard Fidler on Sept. 28, 1940. To this union one daughter, Janice, was born.
Emma Jean and Bernard lived on a farm near Fair Play their entire married life. She was saved at an early age at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member there until her death. Emma Jean was a very caring person and always thought of others before herself. Emma Jean and Bernard have been outstanding neighbors and friends to any who knew them...always willing to help those in need.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard, of the home; one daughter, Janice Ryals and husband Bill of Augusta, Ga.; one grandson, Brent and wife Briana of Augusta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Sandra Dillard and husband Troy of Walnut Grove and Cynthia Ann Sample of Augusta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Emily of Augusta, GA., and Nicholas and Tristian of Walnut Grove; two sisters, Ann Schaaf of Bolivar and Evelyn Esry of El Dorado Springs; one brother, Jim Chism of El Dorado Springs; plus several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Ovie and Willia Chism; and two brothers, William and Joe, who passed away in 1996.
When Emma Jean's health became so bad, she and Bernard went to Augusta, Ga., where she was with Janice and her family, who gave her the utmost care and love until the very end.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Pitts Funeral Chapel, Bolivar, with Bro. Ralph Benham and Bro. Mike Bruce officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Price, Johnny Fox, Raymond Neil, Russ Neil, Kevin Morgan and Lowell Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Kem Price, Kent Morgan, Frank Wallen, Jim Claxton and Troy Dillard. Interment was in Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Bear Creek under direction of Pitts Funeral Home, Bolivar."
