"Edward Woodrow (Woodie) McDowell, age 91, of Troy, passed away at 5:41 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born on June 29, 1918 in Miami County, Ohio, a son of the late Oscar L. and Ella (Smith) McDowell. He married Freda Jane Weikert on August 1, 1942 and she preceded him in death on December 11, 2000. He is survived by two children: Marilyn Humason of Medway, and Marvin (Karen) McDowell of Covington; 5 grandchildren, Joe (Sarah) McDowell of Troy, James (Renee) McDowell of Conover, Tara (Darrin) Frizell of Covington, Marci (Chuck) Maynard of Powell, Joli (Dion) Jones of Hilliard and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret (Peg) A. McDowell, a granddaughter, Jill Humason, and three brothers, George, Fred, and Ellis McDowell. Mr. McDowell was a graduate of Covington High School. He was a member of the Troy Church of the Brethern. He was engaged in farming all of his life and was a member of he Miami County Farm Bureau and the National Soybean Association. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street Fletcher, Ohio with Pastor Sheila Shumaker of the Troy Church of the Brethern presiding. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McDowell's memory to the Church of the Brethern, 1431 W. Main St., Troy, Ohio. A scholarship to benefit a Miami East FFA student will also be established. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home."
