"W. L. FULKERTH was born in Pennsylvania, December 30, 1831 and is a son of Henry and Sarah Fulkerth. His early life was spent in blacksmithing. He resided, before starting for California, in Harkinsville, Noble county, Ohio, and in Milton, Van Buren county, Iowa, which latter place he left September 16, 1863, for California, overland, by the southern route, and arrived in Waterloo, San Joaquin county, in August, 1863.
He came to Stanislaus county November 8, 1868, and engaged in his trade of blacksmithing in connection with farming.
He married Miss Abby E. Willey in 1857, who was a native of Ohio. They have children named Orien W., Willie, May, Robert E. Lee, and Sarah Belle Fulkerth.
The ranch of the Fulkerth brothers consists of six hundred and forty acres, located ten miles from Modesto and three miles from the railroad. It is of the usual sandy loam of that section of the county, and produces wheat, rye and other cereals. Besides the general farming considerable stock is kept on the place.
The ranch is in charge of W. L. Fulkerth, while Thos. H. Fulkerth resides in Turlock, and A. S. Fulkerth lives in Modesto and is acting Sheriff of Stanislaus county."
