Not proven that Margaret's father is John, but family stories do say it is so, and also that he was a Tory.
"The Loyalists In the Siege of Fort Ninety Six" by Bobby Gilmer Moss, at the Family History Library, on page 109, has this:
"SCRIMSHER, JOHN, (Scrimther) served from 14 June 1780 under Capt. William Hendricks in the Little River Militia. He was in the battle of Kings Mountain. Scrimsher evacuated Fort Ninety Six in July 1781. On 23 August 1781, he was under Patrick Cunningham at Dorchester. PA#14/T50/2."
