"Mrs. John Bowers"
"Nancy Ann Vincent was born near Harrisburg, Pa., July 31, 1842. Her mother died when she was quite young. She came with her father J. J.Vincent to Iowa when a young woman. They located at a place in Poweshiek County then known as Mill Grove, which is the site now known as Moores Station. On December 23, 1863 [sic] at Forest Home she was united in marriage with John Bowers. They made their home at Mill Grove where Mr. Bowers had a blacksmith shop. One child was born to them, Walter Bowers now of Montezuma. When the Iowa Central railroad was built Mr. Bowers moved his family to Searsboro where they resided for two years when they came to Montezuma.
Mr. Bowers died May 8, 1891, since that time Mrs. Bowers has lived with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bowers. She was always a great blessing to the family circle, unselfish to a fault, always planning for the pleasure and happiness of grandchildren. She was loved by all the children, not only by her own grandchildren and neighbor children but a grandmother to all the children who came about the home. She was a home body. Though for several years she had never gone from the home she was well preserved in body and mind. She delighted in having something to do about the house, thus she kept active. She has been noticeably failing in health the last few months, yet her last sickness was less than a week's duration, culminating in a stroke from which she did not rally. She died Tuesday morning January 23, 1923, aged 80 years, 5 months, 22 days.
There survive of the immediate relatives the son Walter of Montezuma and two great grandchildren, a wide circle of friends, young and old,who loved her, feel impoverished in her passing.
The funeral was held at the Walter Bowers home Wednesday afternoon at 3:20 o'clock. Rev. Lanning having charge. Interment was made in the Masonic-Odd Fellows cemetery."
