TOWNSEND - Herbert Lynne Sprout, 81, a longtime Townsend educator,died of natural causes Thursday at Broadwater Health Center inTownsend.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Valley LutheranChurch in Townsend. Connors Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 14, 1917, in Wilsall. He graduated from Ennis HighSchool in 1936 and received a provisional teaching certificate fromWestern Montana College. He then attended Montana State College atBozeman, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees.
In 1942 he married Martha Vincent.
Sprout taught in Townsend schools for 24 years, serving as elementaryprincipal for 21 of those years.
He was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and theBozeman Musicians Union and enjoyed entertaining at dances and socialgatherings. He enjoyed playing golf and cards, and was an announcer atmany high school football and basketball events.
Survivors include his wife of Townsend a daughter, Connie Meuchel ofRidgefield, Wash. a son, Dale Sprout of Cascade sisters, Betty Alm ofSeattle and Helen Lade of Bellingham, Wash. four grandchildren and twogreat-grandchildren.
