?Verna Duncan, Native Resident, Dies at Age 62
Verna Duncan, 62, native of Porterville and descendant of pioneer areafamilies, died in Fresno Community Hospital Friday following a longillness.
She was the wife of Gene Duncan, who became known as ?Doc Small?during the Porterville Centennial and who still occasionally carriesthe sobriquet.
A daughter of the late Judge E. E. Ridgway, she attended localschools, graduating from Porterville High School in 1930. She wasactive in the Methodist church.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Gary, of Porterville; asister, Mrs. Wilbur Larson of Porterville; a grandson, Steven Duncanof Santa Cruz and many nieces and nephews.
Her grandfather Josiah Ferguson, at one time had a substantial farmingoperation in the Poplar area and also operated a mercantile business.
Her father, E. E. Ridgway, was manager of the Security First NationalBank (now Security Pacific) here for many years before ascending tothe bench, a post he also held for many years.
His father, C. C. Ridgway, and brother, E. W. Ridgway, operated theSunflower Creamery west of Porterville from 1902 to 1912.
