Will you be kind enough to give me a letter of recommendation as to my character on account of trouble with my lungs. I was taken with a severe attack on them last spring which I am unable to recover from, here. I am going West to the territories and a letter from you will be of great service to me in getting employment from some of the Surveyor Generals should there by any work done by them this year. I expect to return in the fall if I am benefited by my trip, if I am not then I will go where I can find releif[sic].
Respectfully, Geo. Taylor"
