Austin Birchard Taylor

(14 Nov 1813 - 22 Feb 1857)

Austin Taylor and his younger brother Pardon and sister Cynthia were left as orphans by the death of their father in 1818. In 1834, Austin entered the store of his uncle, Sardis Birchard, in Lower Sandusky, later Fremont, Ohio. In 1844, he signed a petition to change the name of Lower Sandusky to Fremont, which change took place in Oct. 1849.

In 1851, Austin B. Taylor became a Justice of the Peace for one term and mayor of Fremont, April. 4,1853, defeating Brice Bartlett. When he died in 1857, he left a large estate. In his will he mentioned his brother Pardon F. Taylor and his sister, Cynthia B. Taylor. He named James Justice his executor; witnesses to his will were Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy Webb Hayes.
