Colonel Allen M. Buckner WINCHESTER - Colonel Allen M. Buckner, (US Army Ret.), 74, Cleveland Ave., died Wed. May 11, 2005 at Clark Regional Medical Center in the ER. Husband of Loretta Joseph Buckner. Born in Owensboro, KY, he was the son of the late Allen M. and Jane Houston Buckner. A member of The First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Colonel Buckner was the Senior Advisor to the President of Liberia on civic action construction of public infrastructure and military management. Former Chairman of the Liberian Governmental committee. Managed construction of 410 miles of roads, two airfields and 196 public government buildings. He was a graduate of University of Kentucky ROTC, US Army War College, US Army Command and General Staff College. He had two tours of in combat in Vietnam and service in the office of the Chief of Staff US Army. Decorations he received are The Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze star for Valor, two Purple Hearts. Surviving relatives besides his wife are one son, Zachary Brown Buckner, Myrtle Beach, SC, on daughter, Mary Buckner Powers Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren: Allen M. Buckner IV, Thomas M. Buckner II, Elizabeth Anne Buckner, Jessica Powers, Davis Richard Allen Powers, Edward Michael Powers, Zachary B. Buckner Jr., Robert Wilson Buckner and the mother of his children, Jessica B. Buckner, Lexington. Funeral services will be 11 am Sat. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main by Dr. James Mahoney. Visitation will be 5-8 pm today at the funeral home. Burial will be Thurs. July 21, 2005 at 11 am in The Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to The First Christian Church, 24 East Hickman St., Winchester, KY 40391.
