Joseph Mitchell Scott
(21 Sep 1844 - 23 Oct 1914)
He graduated from Center College, Danville, KY in 1864 and Harvard Law College, 1866. Owing to eye trouble he did not practice law but was engaged in the furniture and carpet business. As a young man he lived on a farm near Bement, IL. His wife died in 1886 and his sister Susan Budd Scott became head of the family. He was a firm Democrat and during the Civil War believed in the Confederate cause.
