Peter Holem was one of Plymouth's earliest pioneers. The area was mostly forest and still populated by indigenous groups when he arrived here. That he survived to age 88 is a testament to his physical and mental fortitude.Peter married Rebecca Weyrick (1825-1900) on 4 Feb. 1847 in Summit Co., Ohio. After the birth of their first child, son Benjamin in November of 1847, Peter moved the family to Indiana "in a one-horsewagon, and the trip occupied eighteen days from Akron, Ohio to Marshall County. Mr. Holem located in the woods and experienced hardships of so discouraging a nature that even his determination wavered...depending on the woods for meat, in the shape of venison and turkeys. But success finally came, and today Mr. Holem ranks among the first of Marshall County farmers." (From "History of Indiana, Vol. II Marshall County")
After settling in Marshall County, Peter and Rebecca had eleven more children--Melissa?/Amelia (b.1849), Elizabeth (1850-1852), Caroline (1851-1852), Caroline "Carrie" (1852-1940), Jonathan N. (1854-1934), Amanda (1856-1925), Herman (1858-1933), Sarah Alice (1860-1916), Rebecca "Becky" (1862-1909), David (1865-1944) and George Clinton (1867-1921).
Census
"Melissa" takes the place of Amelia or Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth died in this year, it's probably Amelia.Election
