Evan was born in Montgomeryshire Wales in 1837, lived in Radnor with his parents from 1841 to 1848. In 1848 his father died and at the age of 11 he went to work on a neighbors farm for $2/month. When he was 14 his mother died and he then raised his sister Mary. At age 22 he married (Mar 12 1859) Sarah Kyle (1839-1874) d/o David and Margaret (Davis) Kyle). Evan and his new wife went to run her father's farm as he was ill and died soon after they married. The farm was located 1/2 mile South of Hoskins Road on River Road. All of their children were born here. In 1869 Evan and Sarah deeded their interest to William Kyle (Sarah's brother) and moved to a farm 1/2 mile South of Richwood. In 1873 Evan and Sarah sold this farm and bought a 201 acre farm from Adam Dilsaver (now his stepfather-in law). Jan 9 1874 his wife Sarah died leaving him with six children aged 2 to 13. He remained a widower for 11 years raising his children by himself. On Aug 1885 Evan married Nancy J Treese d/o Henry and Jane "Cratty" Treese. Five children were born to them, four living and one died in infancy.
