William Hoge was held the title of major, but I have found no record of his being in the military. Rather, William spent his career in military educational acadmies. He attended Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri, and the University of Missouri, where he earned a Master's Degree in 1881. William then returned to Kemper as a teacher and, later, assistant superintendent. In 1903, he joined the staff at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexinton, Missouri. Then, in 1916, he went to Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, from where he retired in 1929.
