Mary A. "China Mary" Leaman

Mary Leaman, a missionary in China, continued to translate parts of the Bible into simplified Chinese. This project had been started by Mary's father, Charles Leaman. Mary had the assistance of Christiana Tsai, a Nanjiang local who enrolled at the missionary school to learn English. In 1949, Mary and Christiana returned to Pennsylvania and lived in the family home at Leaman Place. Christiana's book Queen of the Dark Chamber, about her life, was published in 1953.
