Joseph McComas graduated from Dickinson College. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar. He soon turned his attention to the ministry. Joseph graduated from the General Seminary of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New York, New York. In 1906 he was the Rector of St. Ann's Protestant Episcopal Church in Annapolis, Maryland.
