Samuel McCauley Shafer

Samuel Shafer and Robert Shafer, brothers, owned Shafer Brothers, a clothier and gentlemen's furnishings, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Samuel began as a clerk at age 18 for J. H. Beachley & Company dry goods. After four years he moved to Lowenstein & Brothers clothiers of Hagerstown, where he became a partner. In 1899 he sold his interest in Lowenstein and open Shafer Brothers.
