Hans Heinrich Martin, along with his sister Veronica, came to America prior to his parents. Hans and Veronica arrived on 21 September 1731 aboard the Brittania. Anna, he and their small children suffered an economic disaster in Kraichgau, Palatinate during the winter of 1730-1731, when his crops and his stored feed all burned. With the support of friends, Hans relocated his family to Pennsylvania, where he patented 153 acres in present-day East Earl Township on 10 January 1733. His land is where Route 625 crosses the Conestoga River.
