Hans Herr Senior

(Abt 1720 - 1797)

Hans Herr was ordained a Mennonite minister in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, and a miller. He bought his father's Wheatland Mill, after his father's death, on 6 September 1748. Hans added a saw mill and a merchant mill. When his son, John, took over the mill, Hans and his wife, Hester, moved the 1740 home built by Hester's father, Henry Shenk--present-day 503 Twin Elm Road, near Strasburg, Pennsylvania. This home was a forerunner of the Strasburg Mennonite Meetinghouse.
