William Martin Newcomer
(13 Aug 1835 - 16 Feb 1911)
At age 20, William Newcomer left the farm to join the milling business of his uncle, Michael Newcomer. Later, he join in milling with his father-in-law, Bejamin Witmer.
In 1886, William and Eliza Newcomer took Edith Stephens into their home to raise. She was 11 at the time.
William was a trustee of the Washington County Free Library, and organizer for the Washington County Hospital, and a director of the Washington County Orphans' Home. In addition, he served as a director of the Hagerstown Bank from 1864 to 1889.
He and his family were members of the Christian Church at Beaver Creek, where he served as secretary and treasurer for more than 45 years. He and his wife had another child who died in infancy. In 1906 he lived at Beaver Creek, Maryland.
