Individual Details

Peter Eichenberg Senior

(2 Aug 1731 - 1812)

Peter Eichenberg's surname was also spelled "Eigelberger" on the Conestoga Brethren Congregation records.

Peter Eichenberg, according to family tradition, was born in Germany and arrived in America in 1750. However, Charles Andrews gives his birth in America. He was baptized on 3 May 1752 in the Conestoga Congregation of the German Baptists (Dunker) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He served as Bishop of the congregation from 1755 to 1762. By 1772, Peter had advanced to the ministry. He resided in Cocalico Township.

Peter Eichenberg moved from Lancaster to Virginia in about 1790. He farmed along the north side of Little Creek and south of the modern-day US Route 220.

About 1807 Peter moved to Preble County, Ohio with his sons Peter, Jr. and Henry Eichenberg. As with the move to Virginia from Pennsylvania, the purpose of moving to Ohio was to find new, good land for descendants to inherit and farm.
