Eleanor Moon graduated from Hamilton High School in Cartersville, Virginia in 1927, and from Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1931 with a degree in math. She taught math at Powhatan High School from 1931 to 1936; taught fifth grade at Burkeville Elementary School from 1948 to 1973. She resided in Burkeville, Virginia from 1939 until her death. Eleanor belonged to the Barker Memorial Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
