Franklin Charles Ankeney
(11 Sep 1899 - 4 Sep 1932)
At age 17, in 1917, Franklin Ankeney volunteered as an ambulance driver in the Army Medical Corps. He served with the 11th Machine Gun Battalion during the second Argonne battle, and he was under fire until the Armistice in November 1918. Franklin then served with the occupation forces in Germany. He was discharged 5 August 1919.
Franklin Ankeney graduated with honors from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1921.
