Clara Jane KNODE
(1837 - 4 Mar 1906)
Clara Knode crossed the river into Virginia one day before the outbreak of the Civil War battle at Antietam. The day after the battle she recrossed the river to rejoin her husband who had stayed to protect their home. She was arrested as a spy and taken to General McClellan, but she was able to rejoin her husband that night.
